From pushing supermarket trolleys to leading a major hospitality brand. Plain talk on business, marketing, leadership and customer experience.

About Mike Scott

I’m a business leader, marketer, operator and lifelong problem solver.

Over the last 30 years I’ve worked my way from pushing trolleys in a supermarket to leading multi-million-pound businesses. Along the way I’ve worked in technology, healthcare, sales, marketing, customer experience and hospitality.

Today I’m the Group Managing Director of Potters Resorts, the UK’s only fully inclusive resorts.

I’ve spent my career wearing many hats. Trolley boy. Network technician. Project manager. Counsellor. Consultant. Business owner. Director.

That journey taught me something important.

The best ideas are worthless unless someone makes them happen.

I’m a planner who executes.

A strategist who delivers.

Someone who enjoys creating more than consuming.

I like solving problems, building teams, spotting opportunities and turning ideas into reality.

I’m at my best when things get difficult. While others run away from problems, I tend to run towards them.

People often describe me as calm under pressure, practical, creative and someone with a healthy dose of common sense.

I’ve learned to speak many different languages, not just technical ones.

I can talk to a boardroom, a marketer, a software developer, a customer, a frontline team member or a business owner and help them understand each other.

That’s become one of my strengths.

Why PlainScott Exists

PlainScott is where I share observations, ideas and opinions on:

• Business

• Marketing

• Hospitality

• Travel

• Technology

• Customer Experience

• Leadership

• People

I write about things that catch my attention.

A clever piece of marketing.

A poor customer experience.

A leadership lesson.

A cruise ship.

A hotel.

A business decision.

A trend that’s being ignored.

Or a problem that needs fixing.

The goal isn’t to impress anyone.

The goal is to think, learn and share.
